ELEGANCE IS EVERYWHERE
One thing I am discovering about living with inner elegance is that circumstance has little to do with whether things are elegant or not. Ironically it is often in the places that appear to be the most dark, the most desperate and the most difficult where the beacon of inner elegance shines the brightest.
Welcome to my series Elegance is Everywhere: A sequence of inspiring interviews with extraordinary people who have turned adversity and tragedy into something exquisitely elegant. We will explore what that special “something” is that makes the difference in people’s lives between simply falling apart and surviving, thriving and helping others.
In 1992 Terrence Stevens was convicted of being in possession of a small amount of cocaine. He was sentenced under the Rockefeller-era Drug Laws to fifteen years to life and served much of this time in New York’s notorious maximum-security prison, Green Haven. In this interview Terrence shares his inspiring journey of triumph over devastation and adversity and shows us that Elegance is indeed Everywhere.
Melanie Townsend Diggs, who, following the protests after the death of Eddie Gray, has turned her Baltimore library into a safe haven of peace and security. Elegance is Everywhere will regularly feature inspiring stories of courageous people as a reminder that, no matter what the circumstance, we can all be the change we want to see in the world.
